Donna Dixxon was long a favorite of catfighting fans around the world. A MILF by every conceivable standard, she was also one of the better wrestlers around but she could not get over the hurdle of getting her first win.

Her struggles compounded and it became a much watched feature on the Internet as fans worldwide rooted for her to get her first win.

Donna DixxonDonna Dixxon began engaging in athletics when she enrolled in a gymnastics class in 3rd grade. Her instructors knew early on that she had a special gift and she immediately stood out from all of her friends. So talented was she that she entered high school already a highly sought prospect, looked at by colleges across the country. With such intense attention and focus on her abilities, Donna began to feel the pressure as International coaches because badgering her to let them serve as her coach.

After leading in the first two rounds of the 1992 Olympic trials, Dixxon abruptly left the tryouts, complaining that even when she won an event, everyone, from her personal coach to the Olympic committee, seemed to put pressure on her. “It just got to the point where it was not fun at all. I could have competed and probably would have won a medal, but how much would it mean to me to medal in something that I had grown to hate.” The Olympic team coaches were unrelenting about her, vehemently criticizing her for her lack of heart and lack of commitment. “She had no heart, no killer instinct,” said one coach. This would be a label that would follow her throughout her future.

After enrolling in a local Junior college, Dixxon took an interest in the martial arts discipline of Hapkido. “I liked it because it trained me to be brutal if necessary but to respect the power and thus not have to be brutal. Understanding that I had the power was more fulfilling than actually using the power.” In a heavily focused discipline, Dixxon moved along slowly in her training. “Sometimes it took a while for me to feel comfortable actually hitting my sparring partners for fear of hurting them. It really set me back, so I only had a purple belt when I should have had a brown.” After 4 1/2 years, she finally obtained a black belt in Hapkido.

At this point, she also sought training in other disciplines including judo, tai chi and tae kwon do. She excelled in judo and began competing nationally. After placing 2nd in the 1996 Federated Judo Association national finals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she placed 1st a year later in Casper, Wyoming.

Donna DixxonThe desire for competition lead her to seek other avenues. “I never would have thought about getting involved in apartment wrestling but one of my girlfriends joked about it one day and after laughing for a while, I found myself thinking about it a lot. Because it is somewhat of an outlaw sport, there are no official national committees that I have to report to or have to kiss up to. I saw it as the type of competition where I could get out of it what I wanted instead of what everyone else was demanding of me. She began her apartment wrestling career on an amateur level and her success in martial arts and her flexibility and mobility from her gymnastics career permitted her to quickly progress to the point where she became the National Dormitory Champion. Success on an amateur level was one thing – turning pro was different.

In her rookie year, she trained for a while under Tanako X but left the Chicago Dojo of the ACW Academy in Chicago and began training with Masahiro X. “Masahiro X told me that he would provide me with more focused training and that he was committed to making me a champion instead of just wanting to teach me. Whether it was the right move or not is up for debate. It was a decision I made and I will live with it!” Many felt that her decision was a mistake as she has yet to achieve her goal.

After a rookie record of 12-10 (in which she suffered a severely sprained ankle), she approached Tanako X requesting that he train her. “He turned me down but but he was very nice and suggested that I compete in Japan for a year. He also encouraged me to work a lot on my upper body strength… and then to develop a killer attitude. He said he wouldn’t train me because he was not yet convinced that I would close the deal every time.” The label of not going for the jugular continued to haunt her.

Donna DixxonWhile touring Japan, Dixxon undertook a new exercise regimen, focusing on developing her upper body. “I did 500 push ups each day,” Dixxon said. “Gradually I felt stronger and stronger and could literally feel my muscles growing.” The results were immediate and eye-popping. Having developed a gymnast’s body over the years, her body was transformed into a strong and sexy one, complete with larger pectoral muscles.

Returning to the United States, the changes were immediate and noticeable. She began overpowering her opponents, but used her power in bursts when necessary. Displaying incredible flexibility from her years in gymnastics and martial arts, she is able to bend in any position easily, a quality that allows her to escape from painful wrestling holds and to tolerate high levels of pain when they were applied. She quickly ran off a winning streak that reached 13 months (47 matches) and the apartment wrestling world was buzzing about her prospects against ACW Champion Heaven.

Just as she was beginning to look unbeatable, she lost a match against the ultra-violent Taylor Wilson. Dixxon had Wilson ready to submit to a painful ankle lock, but froze, allowing Wilson to escape the hold and then to countermaneuver, which ultimately led to Wilson winning. Once again, Donna was pinned with the label of not being able to follow up with a killer instinct.

Finally, dejected and worried about the possibility of never getting over a certain level, she made the determination to change her approach. The girl who was always nice to everyone had now adopted the phrase “whatever it takes to win…” She found success immediately with her new tough approach, winning the 2000 Havana Cabana title in Cuba. Employing her new signature move, the inverted crab, she is once again moving up through the ranks of ACW and has set her sights at the top. “When I finally get my chance, I promise you I won’t back off. I promise you that!”
