The Golden Girl, Gia Torelli made her ACW debut in a match against Kristy “the Bruiser” Broussard. The blonde haired beauty improved steadily while in the promotion but quit to train in Europe. When she returned to the United States, she had changed her name to Gia Primo and become one of the most renowned catfigters in the world.
She used her name recognition to appear in a few small video projects, but has retained a significant following as a catfighter.
Gia Torelli faces the daunting task of overcoming her own persona. Nicknamed “the Golden Girl,” Torelli is burdened with the perception of being a “nice girl.” As such, her entrance into ACW is accompanied by the question of whether she is tough enough to survive in active competition.
Gia was born and raised in San Diego, California. Growing up in a relaxed, laid back community, she developed a pleasant, easygoing personality. At age 18, Torelli attended the San Diego Motorcycle Enthusiasts Exposition. At one of the exhibits, one of the models failed to show up and Gia began joking with some of her friends, pretending to be a spokesman from the company and extolling the virtues of a new road bike. The owner of the exhibit, Prescott Motors was impressed with her personality as well as her knowledge of the equipment and asked her to continue interacting with the customers for the rest of the day. The next day, Gia received a phone call asking her to appear at another tradeshow and began to appear regularly on behalf of the company. Over a period of time, she develop a fan base within the San Diego community. Due to popular request, she was invited to appear in a calendar for a local motorcycle club. Her popularity led to several more calendar appearances and the “calendar girl” soon began a full fledged modeling career.
Traveling throughout the United States and Canada, she was involved in a calendar shoot with ACW champion Heaven and Barbie Mayfield. She later visited them at the ACW Academy Dojo in Chicago and became friends with a number of CAW competitors. On a lark, she decided to participate in a training session and accorded herself well enough to enroll in the Academy. With ACW’s new interest in the entertainment industry, Torelli was signed to a contract and assigned to the Night Fights promotion for further training.
Gia began her career as a tentative performer. Many of the ACW competitors and prospects took offense to her entrance into the promotion, considering her little more than a little plastic doll looking to play around. Many sneered and made jokes behind her back while other were very vocal and upfront about their feelings, threatening to make her suffer greatly during a match.
Gia, however, showed herself to be more than a pretty face. In a match against ACW prospect Laura McCord, Torelli was on the receiving end of a vicious kick to the face, a blow prohibited in ACW competition. When an unapologetic McCord attempt another similar kick, Torelli batted down McCord’s flailing foot, pulled her forwards by the hair, then leapfrogged McCord and executing a sunset flip and a back bridge was able to trap Laura in a form of an inverted guillotine chokehold. A helpless McCord weakly tapped out but Torelli refused to release the hold until Laura lost conciousness.
With slow, steady progress, she has shown herself to be a very competent performer. Quick, agile and graceful, she utilizes finesse and (HOLDS) rather than employ brute strength and aggression. This, however, has stirred many competitors to label her soft and declare her to be lacking a “killer instinct.” Not everyone, however, views her this way. “I think Gia in many ways embodies the ideal prototype of an ACW competitor. Beautiful, a winning personality, knowledgeable in grappling techniques and eager to learn.” Still, the voices of naysayers have reached her ears. “They can say what they want. A couple of the girls have tried to bully me but as long as I can slip out of their holds, I can break them down with mine — and will!”
The “Golden Girl” Gia Torelli takes on Kristy “the Bruiser” Broussard. Gia (later known as Gia Primo) will have to run for her life as the bigger stronger meaner Kristy tries to dominate her.
