She is known as the Polish Powerhouse, one of the strongest and toughest competitors to ever enter ACW.
While lacking in technical wrestling skills, her sheer power puts her on even footing with wrestlers more skilled and experienced than her. As she learns more and gains valuable experience, she looks to rise up the ACW ladder and compete for championship gold.
She is the Polish Powerhouse, one of the strongest and most powerful women to ever compete in ACW. Hailing from Chorzow, Poland, Persenko was a member of the Polish Women’s National powerlifting team and was on track to compete in the 2000 Olympics but a shoulder injury sidelines her and threatened to end her powerlifting career. Training to rehab the shoulder, she worked out with the Polish men’s wrestling team for a year before realizing that she would not be able to compete on an international stage as a powerlifter.
Devastated by the end of her career path, Paulina fell into a depression that lasted for six months until Stosh Stanauski, the personal trainer for several of the male wrestlers coaxed her to resume training with him. Paulina found that training helped her shoulder stability and began training five days a week with him. He matched her against a few females who wrestled at his studio and while lacking technical prowess, Paulina was able to steamroll them and physically wear them down. Paulina focused her dreams on competing internationally but Stanauski recognized that matched up against other heavyweights, it would takes years of training to get her to their level. Instead, he encouraged her to train for competition in the world of catfighting where he power would be able to make up for her lack of wrestling skills. Persenko protested but eventually gave it a try.
In her first three matches, she met with sound defeat. Facing smaller opponents, she was determined to try to match them in wrestling skills and each overwhelmed her with skill and technique. Finally she used her bulk to force another opponent to the ground where she simply rolled on top of her and stayed there until the girl tapped out as she feared being crushed. Recognizing her ability to overpower other women, she changed her strategy and won 22 of her next 23 matches. Suddenly, she was being looked at as one of the top talents in Europe and was being groomed for a run at the European title.
By chance, the former ACW champion Heaven was touring Europe promoting a fitness video. Fascinated, Paulina looked her up on the internet and read about her exploits in ACW. Intrigued, Persenko sent a video of her matches to ACW’s European talent scout. She was offered a contract and came over to the United States and began training at the ACW Academy DoJo in Chicago. Upon her arrival, she impressed many within the organization will her power. She remained very competitive in her first match against fellow powerhouse Taylor Wilson. Wilson had been bullying her opponents for years but was unable to run over Persenko. Paulina continued to impress against Barbie Mayfield, Veronica Van Dyne and Amber Mayfield.
It seemed that there was little keeping her from someday competing for various titles, but there was someone in Poland that was becoming a distraction for her. She had fallen in love before she departed for the United States and the long-distance relationship was not working out. Her boyfriend, Robert, proposed to her and begged her to return to Poland. In a stunning move, Paulina no-showed her match against Lisa Nash for the Inter-Condominium title. After returning to Poland, Persenko went into a veritable seclusion, dropping out of the wrestling scene and refusing any interviews. She refused a meeting with ACW officials and simply apologized for leaving but reiterated that she was not coming back.
Paulina Persenko had the size and strength to make a real impact on the sport of apartment wrestling but will simply be a topic for the question of what if? Sometimes, it would seem, life and apartment wrestling don’t go hand in hand.
