She’s not just another pretty face. She is smart and very talented and her rise in ACW was no accident. Veronica combines suprising strength with an intellectual pursuit of the sport of apartment wrestling to become one of the most compelling personalities.

In addition to her on-carpet pursuits, Veronica is looked up to by everyone in the locker room for her passionate pursuit of an education and her desire to become the best apartment wrestler in history.

Veronica Van DyneLooks can be very decieving. When Veronica was discovered, she was posing for a photographer on the beach near Lake Shore Drive. The photographer, Theo Barrett also worked as the in-house photographer for Apartment Championship Wrestling. Noting that she was a fitness enthusiast, Barrett recommended her for a tryout with the promotion. Van Dyne laughed at the prospect of grappling with other girls on the carpet as she was finishing her education at DePaul University. Nevertheless, she accepted an invitation from ACW and began training at the ACW Academy DoJo.

Standing 5′ 6″ and weighing 135 lbs., she combined great fluidity in her movement wtih surprising strength. “Well I used to take dance lessons, so I move pretty well, but I get all my power from my ass. My ass sticks out almost a foot from my back so it comes in handy when I need a little oomph,” she laughed. Her first match was a one sided lost against former champion 00Heaven. Seeing that she was clearly outclassed against top competition, she focused more on training than actually competing and began improving each week. When she returned to the carpet, she began having more success, defeating Miranda Alexander, Niki Foxe and a faltering Candy Sommers. Now seen as a rising star, Veronica began working on other skills expected out of an apartment wrestler. To practice her promos, she joined toastmasters to improve her public speaking. To get herself ready for photo shoots and public appearances, she adopted a strict vegetarian diet. ACW management was very impressed with her improvement and her dedication and began grooming her as a star in the making and sent her to Japan to compete in the annual D-Cup tournament. Unfortunately, in the third round, she suffered a concussion when she was suplexed accidentally onto a coffee table.

Veronica Van DyneWhen she returned to the United States she was ready to get back on the carpet but ACW officials became concerns when she stumbled on some of her promos for a local television station. Further neurological testing showed that she had suffered a severe concussion and she was sidelined for six months. At this low point of her career, she received some good news. After accumulating enough credits to graduate from college she was accepted into law school. She also received a visit from a concerned sister, Tabitha. After much prodding, Veronica introduced her to Tanako X and Tabitha was signed to a conditional contract.

At the end of her six months on the sidelines, Veronica was cleared to return to action. In her third match back, she again suffered a concussion when her opponent Malaysia crushed her against a wall. “The problem was my butt hit the wall first, and worked like a see-saw, so my head slammed into it pretty hard,” she said. ACW did not want to take any chances and persuaded her to take a year off from competition to focus on her school work. After two years, Van Dyne decided that the legal profession was her priority and retired from apartment wrestling. After graduating from law school, she opened her own practice, specializing in representing former athletes suffering from injuries suffered over their career. She testified before congress on the need for more safety training and awareness eduction related to head injuries.

While she occasionally takes part in celebrity charity matches, Van Dyne has developed a career that will make other apartment wrestlers proud and hopefully give some an example of preparing for a career after wrestling. “I miss apartment wrestling, but now I am powerful because f my brain, not my big butt,” she laughs.
